confronts and destroys every one of the
conspiracy theories that have
grown up since the assassination,
exposing their selective use of
evidence, flawed logic, and outright
deceptions. So thoroughly documented, so
compellingly lucid in its conclusions.
Four
Days In November by Vincent Bugliosi
(Trade Paperback...W.W. Norton) Four
Days in November is an exciting,
precise, and definitive narrative of the
assassination of President John F.
Kennedy on November 22, 1963, by Lee
Harvey Oswald. It is drawn from
Reclaiming History: The Assassination of
President John F. Kennedy, a
monumental and historic account of the
event and all the conspiracy theories it
spawned.
"Although
I am proud to say that I have done 99.9
percent of my own
research
for everything I wrote in this book
(which is typical for me, not feeling
comfortable relying on others to do
research for me), I want to give special
thanks to four individuals, three of
whom are avid students of the
assassination, who have helped me in so
many diverse ways. Having no official
connection to the case like a Bill
Alexander, Dr. Michael Baden, or Steven
Tilley, just their friendship and their
desire to help me, they were always
there for me, without hesitation,
whenever I needed them--whether it was
to take a photo of an angle at Dealey
Plaza I needed, secure someone's phone
number for me, loan me one of their many
books on the assassination, in some
cases get a document they had ready
access to, or whatever. They are Jack
Duffy of Fort Worth (who has been with
me on this book the longest), David
Phinney of Los Angeles, Jim Agnew ofChicago, and Bill Drenas of
Lowell, Massachusetts. I'll never forget
the help these four gave me and will
always be especially grateful to them.

Research Works in Progress:
"Carson the Magnificent" the
authorized Johnny Carson biography by
Bill Zehme for Random House in 2010.
Zehme,
Bill. Carson the Magnificent: An
Intimate Portrait.Random House,
Fall 2010. The author of the
best-selling Frank Sinatra book The Way
You Wear Your Hat(1997) was the
last journalist to interview the late
Johnny Carson, and his book lends great
understanding of the comedian's personal
life and cultural impact.
The
research
work I provide is in addition to the
author's own collection and is
supplemental in nature. The authors are
their own best researcher and I take
great pride in assisting them and
sometimes surprising them. The completed
book is their work alone. ~ Jim

"Many thanks for
getting Direct Action onto your
recommended list this week. BTW,
Grover Lewis hired me at Rolling
Stone and was my editor. We met
when he included me in a
wonderful piece on 3-Dog Night
in Texas when I was
free-lancing. We hung out
together, and hit it off so well
he offered me a job without even
consulting Jann Wenner (who
later canned my butt). Grover
was one of my mentors, and
indeed, a great American writer
whom I adored." Stay safe,

Dear
Jim,
Good morning! Judy Heise, my
publicist at the Naval Institute
Press, sent me a link to your
website, where I was very
pleased to see my book listed as
one of your "daily picks." Thank
you very much for the
endorsement! I was also quite
taken by your quote: "Reading is
your constant silent companion,
and loyal friend!" What a
wonderful thought that is! If we
could somehow imbed that into
the mind of every child the
world would instantly be a much
better place!
Again, thanks for the endorsement,

Dear
Jim,
I am so immensely flattered that
you have chosen my debut novel,
THE ART OF DEVOTION, as one of
your book picks! It's curious
because, about seven years ago,
when I was an editor at Random
House, I was assigned to oversee
your friend
Bill Zehme's INTIMATE STRANGERS,
which was being published there
at the time. The work had
already been edited, so I was
merely in charge of shuffling
papers
- which I was delighted to do! -
and we never spoke, but it's
very funny how things come full
circle! So, thank you so much
for your support. I will be
following your site in earnest!
Very best wishes, Samantha

You're too kind, my beloved

for sure.) Bill Zehme

"Dear Jim: Thank you for your
selection of my book on your

passage about Johnny Cash in

the tone of what you had to say
that you really experienced
similar emotions to the ones I
felt as I was doing those

think of no higher compliment."
